Art

Ever since I’ve started watching instructional YouTube videos on how to draw manga/anime characters, I began to see my art skills getting a bit better.

I watched this video, and instantly, my ability to draw clothes and their folds increased! The YouTuber that made this video, mikeymegamega, is an amazing artist and YouTuber. Go subscribe!

Here are some of the pictures I drew after that, collected in my binder, terraart. (new post coming on that later 😉)

The first picture I’m posting is of a girl named Celecira (Cira) Diler, from one of the many stories I wrote when I was as little younger. Unfortunately, the colors are a bit awkward because I’m using color pencils… color pencils suck! 😤

⬇️ ⬇️

Please leave the comments in this format:

x/10 x=number you would give it out of 10

[content] =what you think of it

[(OPTIONAL:) ways to improve]

I left an example in the comments below, so even if you don’t understand what I put up there, you will have a better chance of understanding after you read what I put.

The next picture I would like to post is a black and white picture, of a girl that has no name. It’s really hard to draw in black and white, in my opinion, because it’s super annoying to erase the guidelines and keep the nice lines when I’m ready to shade.

⬇️ ⬇️

Shading in pencil is easier than coloring with colored pencils, again, in my opinion, because it’s less flaky on paper and can actually produce a nice, bold block of color if you use it correctly.

(Caution: If you are James, Karen, or mars, STOP READING!!!)

The next picture is actually from a story that I’m in writing at the moment. I’m going to publish it to my family soon, so shhhhhh! Don’t tell them! I just showed them the pictures, I didn’t tell them where they were from. The most I’ve ever done was tell Mars, “it’s from a story I’m going to publish to our household, but I’M NOT TELLING YOU ANY MORE THAN THAT!!!”, so I think we’re still safe.

The person down below should look 20 something (I’m very inefficient for things like that, so I hope I did it correctly). Her name is Celeste, and she is a celestial being. I had to draw out all the characters for the story before progressing on, so I can actually keep going back to the picture and see what they look like before going to the story to attempt a detailed description.

⬇️ ⬇️

Again, colored pencils are the worst things to color with, second to crayons, so please excuse all the flakyness.

At this point you’re thinking, “hey, terra’s art is great and all, but… what about the guys? Does she only draw girls?”

That’s pretty much what I’ve been thinking to myself the past month. I concluded that out of all the pictures I drew last year, only about 2% featured a boy as the person I was drawing. Taking this into consideration, I decided to try drawing another one. Please leave comments below on whether or not I succeeded, and if he looks like a boy.

This is another character from the story I’m writing. His name is Ravius, and he’s a raven-based being. Try to direct your attention somewhere other than the yucky colored pencil marks.

⬇️ ⬇️

Anyway, that’s pretty much all that I’m going to post today, and if I make any more of these drawings, I’ll definitely put those on a new blog.

I didn’t post any of my buni-as-a-human drawings, unfortunately. (Yes, even though this is 2 years later than my last post, I still have buniz…)

If you have any recommendations for me to draw, feel free to post them in the comments section below.

Until next time!

Lia speaking [hand over the mic.]

I like using the camera now. No more weird pictures LOL, but now we have made 2 new things. We (me and Eli) made a roller coaster on the steps of our home and have made roller coasters on the camera, like recording them and watching, giggling, et cetera. ONE DAY WHEN I GROW UP I WILL MAKE MY OWN DIMENSION!!! Okay, that is just wrong. Maybe I went a little too far that time 🙂 heh heh heh heh et cetera again. Maybe my daddy already did this, but, if you watched it, do you hear yanny or laurel?!

[i hear laurel]

Now I have lots of bunnies

but I’m 10 🙁

okay, bunnies have nothing to do with yanny and laurel. Do you hear yanny?! Do you hear laurel?! Do you hear BOTH?! [squee!]

The bunnies hear them, too! [of course, they are stuffed animals] Hera hears yanny, Zeus hears both, Sydna hears laurel, Cunsetta hears both, Cristile hears yanny, Maia hears yanny, Branch hears yanny, Moana hears laurel, and Molduga hears laurel, and that is all, folks. On May fourth, my daddy made me watch star wars because it was star wars day (may the force be with you = May the fourth be with you). And I couldn’t wait!!! I just HAD to shwa-yah. (sorry. it’s chinese) my brother said, “noo-OOO-ooo?!” heh heh heh et cetera. I jumped into the couch and loved it sooo much I couldn’t stand it when my daddy said, “alright, let’s stop there.” It sounds like James, right? Okay, Eli and I said in perfect unison, “noo-OOO-ooo?!” Daddy said, “we will continue tomorrow,” and we did! [my favorite part, Duel of the Fates, was in episode 1) Daddy said that episode 2 was too violent so we skipped to episode 4 and after that we watched clone wars.

All of it was sooo interesting!!!

Have you heard about the 4th grade spelling bee? No? Okay, let’s say… the contestants were Ethan, Oliver, Katia, Brandon, Aniyah, Ariana, Hudson, et cetera. Katia was the first to get out, she missed on a 3rd grade word, lizard, she spelled it lizzard. Next, it was Brandon that was out, than Ethan, Oliver, Hudson, Ariana, and I was head-to-head with Aniyah!!! She was the school champion. So when she missed on an 9th grade word, everyone was, like, OMG! How does out champion get out?! And BAM!!! I got a gold medal, and competed with a 5th grader, and went to the extra words list, although I missed on ‘squalid’.

Rumors in my lifetime

Pancake in girl’s toilet. Someone fished it out. 😉
Booger in right water fountain.
Okay, that’s just wrong. But it’s true! 😀

Okay, let’s see, you’ve seen my first block, but I’ll make more!

Chapter 1: Getting the Golems

“We are the poorest family on Crasmperry Street,” Molduga said to her daughters, Sydna and Maia. “We only have infinity dollars!”
“Infinity?” Maia asked, wrangling her bunny paws.
“How much is infinity?” Molduga shook her head, her ears swinging side to side as she put her paws on her hips.
“Below zero,” she answered stiffly. Sydna walked out the door, her bunny feet softly tapping the stone floor. “I’m going outside to see if there are any Golems I can purchase.”
Molduga shook her head again. “Sydna never learns,” she said, frowning. “Golems are expensive! How dumb can she be?” She sighed.

Sydna walked into a bedrock shop.
“Welcome! My name is Rara, and you are going to go bowling! Woohoo! Bowling!”
Sydna made a face. “Wrong house,” she muttered to herself.

She went in another house, made of pure cobblestone.
“Welcome, I’m Ira, and today, you are going to purchase the best Golems in the universe!” Ira greeted. “One diamond golem for 400 rupees, and one iron golem for 200 rupees!” She took a breath. “Buy one! Please!”
Sydna laughed, “I’ll take the diamond golem.” The diamond golem got up and followed Sydna home.

Molduga looked at her beautiful daughter. “Maia, don’t make the decision to buy a golem, please,” she pleaded.
“Sorry, mother, but, I need one for protection,” Maia replied.
Molduga glared at Maia. “You have me to protect you,” she pointed out. “They are too expensive, anyway.”
Maia marched to the door, right when Sydna bursted in with a huge diamond golem following her. Bam! The sisters smacked into each other and fell to the floor. The diamond golem tried to attack Maia, but Sydna raised a sky blue paw to stop it. “Diamond Golem, this is my sister, Maia. Maia, this is my Diamond Golem.”
Maia rubbed her head. “I was going to go to the store to get a golem, Sydna, but you got in my way!”
Sydna ignored her and plopped down on the soft couch to watch Star Wars episode 6. The Diamond Golem sat down next to her. Maia marched out the door.

As Diamond Golem was watching Sydna’s favorite scene, Sydna got up and asked Molduga for some Golem ice cream and bunny bread. Diamond Golem licked it once, and loved it so much that she ate the rest. As Diamond Golem licked herself, Maia bursted in with an iron golem behind her. The iron golem looked at Sydna, and decided that she was innocent. That’s when Molduga walked in and screamed. “Sydna and Maia! WHAT is that?!”
Sydna calmly got up and brushed the crumbs of bread off her pearly fur. She used the Force to push Molduga out of the room.
“Sydna!” Molduga shouted, “Better start packing! We are going to Marmade Island for vacation!” Maia and Sydna looked at each other for a second. “Yay!” They shouted in unison. The bunnies packed.

For dinner, they had soup full of mosquitos, flies, and mushroom, all mushed together. “Eww, what’s this?” Maia, who was very picky, gagged.
“Picon soup,” Molduga explained, “made of fresh squeezed oranges with pulp.” Sydna forced herself to gulp a portion of it. It was as nasty as it looked.
“Do you like it?” Molduga asked. Sydna whimpered but didn’t answer. She forced herself to gulp down another portion. Maia took another sip of the nasty soup, then got up to pack. “Come on,” she said, “We need some sleep.”

Early in the morning the next day, Diamond Golem was clanking on a cup. “Quick!” Maia said, “We can catch the plane if we hurry!” Maia has always been optimistic. The plane flies at 9:00 a.m., and it was already 8:50 a.m. It would take at least 50 minutes to reach the airport, so the bunnies and golems rushed there just in time to grab on to a piece of rope dangling from the plane. The plane took off.

Sydna was slipping from the rope, and so were everyone else except the golems because of their ability to fly. Sydna and the others fell into the ocean.

Maia couldn’t breathe. It had been 20 minutes since they’ve fallen to the bottom of the ocean, and she really needed some air. Maia felt like her lungs were exploding, but Maia knew she was dead. She looked over at Sydna… and blacked out.

Yanny or Laurel

Today, I encountered this viral tweet:

When I first played the clip on the iPad, all I heard was Yanny. I tried to imagine listening to Laurel but couldn’t see how it could be interpreted as Laurel. Eli and Karen both heard Yanny as well, but Lia heard Laurel! What??

Then after a little bit, it switched on me. Now, I no longer hear or can imagine Yanny, and I’m totally stuck with Laurel. I have no idea what just happened.

Which do you hear?

Third Day in Tel Aviv

The day started with breakfast as usual, but today I decided to have a little coffee as well…

As I walked to work, it was interesting that some cars were patriotic with Israeli flags sticking out… It’s probably because of the holocaust memorial…

And some hang flags all the way down the building…

For the holocaust remembrance, at 10am there was a siren at 10am and people were to stand up for a couple of minutes. Unfortunately we were in the conference room and didn’t hear anything.

For lunch, I had goose, which was pretty good…

And Israeli salad…

Public transportation are not as convenient here so people typically don’t take the trains as much as, say cars, buses and taxis. We decided to take the Israeli train to Zikhron Ya’aqov, where one of our Israeli coworkers lived.

On the way to the train, we saw many military personnels getting off and heading home.

Then our train came…

and it was crowded today. Many people were reading on the train…

When we got off, on the fence of the train tracks was this logo of a fencing company…

It’s interesting that the logo shows a poor animal being fenced in.
Then we arrived at our friend’s place, where they had a nice view…

If you can see, to the right, there’s an arab city where they broadcast pretty loudly call to prayer 5 times a day.

We saw some memorial with an interesting Star of David…

Here are the street signs. Can you make out where to go?

Supposedly this city was created because of this winery…

The restaurants in Israel are very international. Here in this place lies an interesting restaurant…

Unfortunately when we got to our restaurant it was closed…

Seems like there’s also some Maternity place… is it maternity clothing? Or midwives? Not sure…

When we arrived at the restaurant, which had this interesting bar in the middle… I wasn’t sure if I was in a restaurant or the John…

Remodeling gone wrong? Anyway, so they asked us earlier what we wanted to eat, and I said anything but western stuff like Pasta. So guess what… we see a restaurant with sandwiches, pizza, and pasta!

Oh wait, wrong menu…

So here were was my coworker Jeff who lived in Israel, with his wife and daughter who’s 5 1/2.

And here’s myself and another coworker Neil who came with me…

First we had some pretty good bread…

As for the entree, it was between Salmon and Sea Bream. Sea Bream was delivered daily and Salmon… not so much. So guess what was the choice…

Now if you’ve been bored by some of the random snaps I did, here’s a little treat. While we were at Jeff’s place, we noticed there was this strange thing on the power panel…

Apparently on Shabbat they shouldn’t be turning on and off the light, but if the lights turn on and off by themselves, what can you do. So sometimes even TV and other things would be put on timer. This does pose a problem with cooking, so there are devices that continually heat up the items to eat on Shabbat. It’s also problematic for doctors, who need secular people to pick them on, and then they made an exception that they can get back from the hospital on their own.

Now here’s an interesting thing from their bathroom…

After that we took the train back…

Then we crossed the street and took a taxi back. Supposedly the cab drivers at the train station were less honest, and when we first got there a guy asked for 90 shakels and wanted us to sit in his cab, and then it was discounted to 70 shakels when we hesitated. I asked them to meter instead, and after a couple of cab drivers denied, the guy ended up taking us himself. The final price: 57 shakels, and in Israel taxi drivers don’t expect a tip.

So that was the third day. It was another day of work, but now it’s time to hit Friday and Shabbat, the weekend! Tomorrow will be when we need to squeeze all the sightseeing in, and Shabbat will be interesting because most of the country is shut down, while the rest of the country (non Jews) may operate. Let’s see what’s in store for us tomorrow!

Second Day in Tel Aviv

Now this trip isn’t really about sightseeing as much as work, but nevertheless, there are a few interesting things to see along the walk to work. The first of which is… breakfast! This hotel has pretty extravagant breakfast…

Seafood. Behind that hand there lies smoked salmon so some other fish… (sorry didn’t do as good of a job snapping with one hand)

Some hot foods…

Decent vegetable selection…

And different breads…

Cheese section…

Fruit section…

Apologize for the picture overload. That was just a few samples…  I just had a little bit with some freshly squeezed grapefruit and orange juice…

Though I didn’t get a picture of the smoked salmon because I ate it already before realizing I should photo journal my breakfast.

On the way to work, it still felt weird seeing all these street signs in Hebrew…

Looks like someone got an Israeli ticket…

And a couple cruising down in a race car…

And a bank that almost looks like Bank of America…

The weather was really strange today. It was 98 in the morning then dropped down to 71 with high winds in a matter of hours. There were some Saudi Arabia winds, similar to the Santa Ana winds in California.

I’ll share more as I see more interesting things, though right now most of my day is spent at work. May have to wait until weekend for really interesting stuff… I mean, Israel. What do you expect to see?  🙂

Stay tuned!

First few days in Tel Aviv

Here’s a business trip to Israel! I flew on El Al airline (which means To God in Hebrew) and took Business class for the first time. Prior to the trip, I had to get a letter of invitation, and was interviewed with questions on the nature of my stay.

Never been on business class, so it was nice to get the extra leg room for an international flight…

Here were the seat adjustment controls…

Despite the controls showing that you can recline, it wasn’t completely flat, unfortunately…

After about 13-14 hours, we arrived in Israel airport.

Overall Israel reminded me a little more of Taiwan than the States…

with older, concrete houses and people hanging clothes out of their windows.

I did get to stay at a very nice hotel…

View from my floor…

Definitely not used to seeing Hebrew signs everywhere. Here the first language is Hebrew, followed by Arabic, then Russian (apparently lots of Russian Jew immigrations), and then English. That said, just about everyone spoke English here at Tel Aviv, the happening city in Israel.

Interesting that for the parking floors, instead of P1 and P2, they go negative…

Here’s a picture of the recycle bin…

And here’s a coca-cola store, oh no, wait, that’s a post office!

Here’s an interesting decor, though I have no idea what this is…

Unfornately, there were graffitis everywhere…

Also saw an interesting balcony…

Check out this parking job. Wonder how he’s planning to get out…

This is the dinner place we went to. Check out the number of people dining… and the first thing they asked us was, “Do you have a reservation?”

Turns out that Israelis have a big dinner, and most people eat at home at night, when dinner prices could double or more.

Unfortunately this place didn’t really have Israeli food, so I just got a seafood dish…

The hotel was right by the Mediterranean Sea…

And a little further south from Tel Aviv was a city called Jaffa, where there’s supposely eateries for workers that serve only one or two dishes.

Back at the hotel, there were some Orthodox Jews. They’re hard to detect… see if you can find them.

So a Jewish friend taught me that Toda is thank you, Bevakasaha means Please, Sliha means Sorry, and… how do you think people greet each other? Shalom?

They say “hi”.

When it comes to holidays, it’s interesting. Apparently there’s some holocaust observation holiday today (Wed), so most restaurants close in observance of it. We had to eat at the hotel.

Now their Passover is interesting, where you work half day for an entire week. Here in Israel the holidays, including Shabbat (Sabbath), starts around 6pm the day before and ends 7pm the day of. So they typically get half a day the day before as well… though that poses an issue this weekend, where everything closes down by 6pm the day before and the entire day on Saturday. Guess the sightseeing this weekend will be much shorter than expected!

And I’ll have to work on Sunday. Ugh!

Events

Up In The Air

This morning we went to the Mission Viejo Up In The Air event…

First we were greeted with balloons…

Then Lia and Eli played with some bubbles, big ones at that…

After that we watched some flying kites…

Saw a really tall man…

And some disc dogs…

Played a few carnival games…

And won some small prizes!

All in all, a fun event!
