Odelia’s One Month Celebration!

Odelia’s surviving one month with Karen and I definitely deserved some celebration! Unfortunately Karen and I were busy gabbing with guests and didn’t have much time to take pictures, but here are a few moments from the video clips we did get.

During the whole time, Odelia was sleeping. Notice her cute, little sleeping pose with her hands on the side of her face.

Then there was the food…

And more food, with Emily and Grandma chatting…

And people enjoying the food, with Karen taking some photos in the background…

Carol first requested the privilege of holding Odelia. Unfortunately the hood not staying on the head prompted a premature ending to the holding session…

Here’s a demonstration of what it takes to request that holding privilege…

A few of our neighbors swung by…

As did Karen’s friends Niels and Erin…

Johnny saying Hi to Odelia…

Later Jun built up enough courage to attempt holding Odelia. Obviously my heart was pounding at the same rate the baby’s heart was beating in the womb, around 150.

And Odelia meeting Sweetpea for the first time…

Paul and Danny came later…

At this point, Odelia started getting squirmy…

And that was the One Month Celebration.

Odelia would like to thank everyone who came and wish to see you all again soon!

How To Calm A Baby Series Part IV: Robot

So far we’ve covered three different ways to calm your baby, the Waltz, the Curl, and the Squat. They also happen to be three ways you can keep yourself in shape while taking care of a baby, as the three methods amount to aerobics, upper body workout, and lower body workout. However, calming a baby doesn’t have to always be such hard work and can be fun. Here’s the robot method of calming a baby…

How To Calm A Baby Series Part II: The Curl

Previously, I demonstrated the Waltz method of calming a baby. While the method may be sweet and is a great bonding time with the baby, it’s not always practical. For example, it is difficult to be waltzing your baby around your bedroom at 3am in the morning when your eyes are blood-shot and arms are shaking from the lack of sleep, putting both the furniture and the baby in jeopardy. Fortunately, I have discovered another way of calming Odelia, and the method is: The Curl. In this demonstration, I only needed one set, but you may need to adjust the number of reps and number of sets.

Another method that works like a charm!

How To Calm A Baby: Waltz

Spending time with Odelia has been very satisfying, as she is cute, energetic and sweet. On the other hand, spending time with Odelia can also be very trying, as the incessant cries can test the limits of human patience.

With Odelia, however, I’ve found one sure-fire way of calming her down, and it does not involve booze. Here’s my secret…

Works like a charm!

Two Week Metamorphosis

Two weeks. It seemed like Odelia was a little chunkier when she first came out…

She started at 7 lb 15 oz, then dropped to 7 lb 6 oz in about 5 days, and has steadily been gaining weight for a week now. It appears that her steady diet of milk has netted 1 oz a day, as our last weight check on Wednesday put her at 8 lb 5 oz. The pediatrician mentioned that once she reaches her weight, we should let her sleep as much as she wants, but unfortunately that did not provide relief during the wee hours as it did not change our schedule a bit.

She now seems be a little less chunky and more alert.

First it bewildered us that Karen and I would produce such an overweight baby, but a little phone call to my folks revealed that I was over 9 lbs, hence explaining why Odelia was pigging out in Karen’s belly. It appears it was from my side of the family.

Nevertheless, she’s already looking different at 2 weeks. She’s growing up on us already! Pretty soon I’ll be able to teach her how to pick beautiful flowers from the field! We sure got a lot of yellow ones for her…

Five Circles of Blood

Some may call PKU a test for a generic disorder, but I call PKU a punishment designed to punish kids for being born, once at birth, and once at 7-14 days. We arrived at the hospital and the operative (aka nurse) initiated her by installing on a warming device on her foot…

The little sweet Odelia was sleeping happily, oblivious to her inevitable fate of being subjected to the rituals of the Five Circles of Blood.

Yes, it made me cringe as I saw it unfold before my eyes. Oh the cruelties of reality, a necessary evil. Welcome to this world, Odelia.
